Smoke Inhalation and How to Prevent it

 Introduction

Fire is dangerous to mankind. It can kill and injured so many lives and property within a fraction of time. Other than burns, smoke inhalation is the greatest threat caused by fire. Smoke can burn delicate organs and pipe in the body. It may deprive the body of oxygen. The poisonous gases can damage the lungs and throat very badly. A single smoke particle can affect the body in many ways.

Symptoms

It is a medical emergency. Whenever such cases arise always call for an ambulance. Don’t leave the victim alone. Try to reach the hospital as soon as possible. Some of the most common symptoms are:

  • Cough
  • Change of skin color to cherry red
  • Headache or faint
  • Shortness of breath

Treatment

Treatment focuses on keeping airways open and providing oxygen. Oxygen may be given through a mask. A chest X-ray may help show damage to the lungs. The carboxyhemoglobin test measures blood levels of carbon monoxide, a deadly gas found in smoke.

Prevention

It has a major impact on the human body and lives. It is always preferable to adopt preventions to avoid any such circumstances. Some fire safety measures to be adopted to avoid fire.

  • While designing a building, there should be an escape route build which can be used in case of an emergency.
  • The route of an escape route must be implemented carefully and every employee must know about it.
  • Have fire extinguishers at every possible place in the building. Buy fire extinguishers from good quality fire extinguisher distributors. Your employees must know how to use fire extinguishers.
  • Installation of smoke detectors and water sprinklers can limit the flow of fire that helps in controlling the fire. Water sprinklers don’t allow gas formation so help to avoid the risk of smoke inhalation.
  • Installation of special detectors to know about the risk in its early stages to adopt precautionary measures on time also helps to fight with the fire.

By adopting the above-mentioned prevention, you can save the lives of so many people.
